Dr. Jason Rudd Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

Northshore orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jason Rudd grew up in a small town in southwest Louisiana. He received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and continued with LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport for his medical degree. He completed his residency in New Orleans with Ochsner Medical Center.

Dr. Rudd grew up in a medical family. His father, brother and sister are all OB-GYNs. His original plan was to join them in practice until he was exposed to orthopedics in medical school

“In medical school I was exposed to orthopedic surgery and decided it was the field for me. I like the diversity of the patients, ages of patients, and the different types of surgery that the field of orthopedic surgery provided.”

As a Northshore Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Rudd specializes in the treatment of the shoulder, hip, and knee. He will treat patients dealing with issues in the nerves, bones, tendons, and muscles around the body. This includes fractures, dislocations, muscle and tendon tears, joint issues, and much more.

When he is not practicing medicine, Dr. Rudd enjoys time with his wife and three sons. He is an avid outdoorsman and loves to hunt and fish.

Robotic Surgery

Northshore orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jason Rudd is among a handful of doctors around the world trained to use robotics during minimally invasive knee and hip replacement procedures.

AVALA Ortho utilizes the Stryker Mako robot for total knee replacements, partial knee replacements and total hip replacements. AVALA Hospital is currently the only facility in the state to offer robotic surgeries for total hip, total knee, partial knee, and spine surgeries. AVALA is one of 12 facilities in the world to offer robotic replacement surgeries for partial knee, total knee and total hip replacements.

The Mako Robot works with a pre-operative CT scan of the patient’s body. This allows the physician to make a unique surgical plan for each patient with an implant made specifically for the patient. It also allows the physicians to visualize the specific patient’s anatomy in real-time during the procedure.

A robotic replacement surgery increases the accuracy of implant placement, offers less radiation exposure, a shorter surgery time and faster recovery.

Dr. Rudd completed medical school at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. He completed his Orthopedic Residency at Ochsner Medical in New Orleans.

Dr. Rudd is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery. He has been trained and licensed in Robotic Surgery for partial knee, total knee and total hip replacements. He currently serves on the Medical Executive Committee at AVALA Hospital.
