Joint Replacements

An AVALA Physician will recommend a partial or total joint replacement procedure if a joint is too arthritic or is no longer working. This surgery is recommended if conservative pain relief treatments fail.

Types of Joint Replacements
AVALA Physicians are trained in the latest technology to provide a custom, state-of-the-art experience for all patients needing this type of procedure.

Joint replacements are typically performed on the:
- Shoulder
- Hip
- Knee
- Wrist
- Ankle
- Elbow
- Finger
The most common joints needing to to be replaced would be the hips, knees and shoulders.
Procedure

These procedures can be done at our partner facility at AVALA.

Incision

An incision is made to access the affected joint.

Joint Removal

Damaged cartilage and bone is removed from the joint.

Implant

A prosthetic implant made of plastic, ceramics and/or metal will replace the damaged joint. These joints are designed to mimic the actions of a natural joint.

AVALA is proud to be one of 12 facilities in the world to offer robotic partial knee, total knee, and total hip replacements. AVALA is the only facility in the state to offer all 3 procedures.

Recovery Time

Every patient will recover at a different pace after the procedure. Your physician will likely recommend you start using the new joint very quickly after surgery. You may experience some pain immediately after the procedure because the muscles surrounding the joint may be week from not being used. Physical Therapy and other conservative treatments may be ordered to help with the recovery.
